The retina is located at the back of the eye, and sends images to the brain through the optic nerve.
The retina can detach from its position at the back of the eyeball. The result is blurred vision. If not treated immediately, then there will be permanent vision loss.
Floaters or little specks floating across your field of vision are symptoms of a detached or torn retina. Also, a gray curtain across your field of vision is another symptom.
People who are at risk of a detached retina are near-sighted people and those who have had previous eye surgeries for a cataract, glaucoma, or a severe trauma.
