Medication for Mental Disorders

The stressors in today’s society cause depression, anxiety, and psychotic disorders. You can take a deep breath; think of your favorite place; and release these stressors; however, when that doesn’t work, you may need medication and counseling.

Anti-depressants are available to treat the blues. Prozac is available to even out the  chemical imbalance in the brain, which causes depression. It’s important to have counseling while taking the medication in order to find out what was the cause of the depression.

Anti-anxiety medication is available to help you function during the day. There are side effects with medication, such as, drowsiness and irritability. Ativan is an anti-anxiety medication that is used only for a short while.

Anti-psychotic medication is for patients whose thought disorders severely prevent them from functioning during the day. Paranoia and delusions are symptoms. A psychosis can occur from a brain injury or drug use. Doctors have seen success using the anti-psychotic medication Resperdal. There are side effects: sleepiness, dizziness, and fast heartbeats.
