Preventing Diabetes
Anyone who has a family member with diabetes knows how much of a hindrance it can be on life. It can cause other health problems, fatigue, and some kinds can be fatal if not treated properly. Since diabetes can be passed on in genes and almost anyone can be predisposed to it, preventing diabetes
should be a priority. There are two ways that have been medically
proven to combat existing diabetes and prevent diabetes from coming in
the first place, namely healthy eating habits and exercise.
Proper diet is essential to preventing diabetes.
Sugar and fatty foods are exactly what should be avoided if you have
diabetes. For people with diabetes glucose levels are too sensitive to
allow for much sugar. The body can convert starches to sugar and take
sugar from most foods you eat. If you have a sweet tooth try eating a piece of fruit or a vegetable to curb your craving.
These are a healthy alternative that provide you with vitamins,
minerals, and antioxidants. Eating unrefined and unprocessed foods is a
great way to both lose weight and prevent diabetes. Drinking plenty of
water is another great way to be healthier. Soda, sugary juice, and
alcohol can be horrible for those suffering from diabetes and can put
you on the fast track to getting it if you are predisposed.
Moderately paced exercise can help to prevent diabetes. Studies done by the American Diabetic Association showed that only 30 minutes of moderate exercise a day decreased the likelihood of diabetes by 58%!
If you feel like you cannot do 30 minutes of exercise a day then try
something smaller and work your way up to it. The most important thing
is to not be sedentary; try to exercise some every day.
Diabetes
is a horrible disease but it can be avoided with a little effort. With
a proper diet, a little exercise and a great attitude, preventing
diabetes has never been easier. If you already have diabetes it is not
too late! Some people are able to reverse the disease and put it in
remission with these same lifestyle changes!
